The Joshua Forest Scenic Road was designated on April 20, 1992, by the Arizona Department of Transportation. Along the route is the backdrop of rugged mountain ranges, the Hualapai Mountains and Aquarius Cliffs. The road winds through granite formations and by many creeks and rivers. The main sources of water in the area are the Big Sandy River, Burro Creek and Santa Maria River. The road then goes through a large boulder field. From the Santa Maria River, the road enters the Joshua Forest Parkway, which is lined with Joshua trees.
