Mellema In the early morning mist along the Platte River, flocks of Sandhill Cranes use the area to rest and build up energy for the remainder of their trek. This ancient species have made the annual migratory flight for nine million years. During this phenomenon, over half a million cranes stop annually each spring, creating one of North America’s greatest wildlife spectacles.
