One of four Maryland Civil War Trails, this byway follows the escape route of one of history s most notorious assassins. After shooting President Abraham Lincoln at Ford s Theatre in Washington, D.C., John Wilkes Booth fled into Southern Maryland and eluded Federal troops for nearly two weeks before being cornered in a Virginia barn.
