Sosa, Mayela

(Acting) Director of Field Services - Mid-America

  In this role, she provides oversight and leadership for 13 FHWA Division Offices in the Mid-America region and serves as an extension of the Executive Director to the field. 

  As the senior leader and principal FHWA representative in Indiana, she is responsible for a Division office with 23 employees and provides stewardship and oversight of the annual $1 billion federal-aid highway program, delivered in partnership with federal, state, and local officials.  Mayela also served as the Division Administrator for the Hawaii Division Office from 2012-2016, where she led an extraordinary effort to implement program and process improvements, resulting in a more efficient use of federal-aid program funds and expedited project delivery.

Mayela began her career in transportation when she joined the Texas Department of Transportation, working for five years on transportation planning matters.  After joining FHWA in 2000 with the Texas Division, she has taken on leadership roles of increasing responsibility in four other states over 17 years, starting as a Team Leader in California, progressing to Deputy Division Administrator in Arizona, before advancing to Division Administrator in Hawaii and Indiana. 

Mayela holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Affairs degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
