Director, Office of Safety Programs

In March 2020, Dana Marshall was appointed Director of the Office of Safety Programs at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).  In this role, she provides national executive leadership in initiating, developing, promoting, marketing, and executing programs that support highway safety.  As Director, Office of Safety Programs, Dana's areas of program responsibility include safety policy development and implementation, data analysis, the Highway Safety Improvement Program, driver penalty programs, transportation safety planning, safety data management systems, internal and external partnerships, professional capacity building and program and technical assistance to States on safety issues. 

 

Dana previously served as the Safety Implementation Team Leader within the FHWA Office of Safety.  In that capacity, Dana collaborated with States and Metropolitan Planning Organizations to ensure the effective implementation of a national performance management framework aimed at reducing highway fatalities and serious injuries.  Dana possesses broad experience developing and leading complex programs aimed at reducing roadway fatalities and serious injuries at both the federal and state levels.  Dana joined FHWA in 2016 as a Transportation Specialist within the Office of Safety.  Prior to that assignment, she held several positions of increasing responsibility with the Maryland Department of Transportation including Field Operations Section Chief and Deputy Chief of the Maryland State Highway Safety Office.

 

Dana holds a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences from Towson University.
